Project Goals

Steveâ€™s existing site used frames to pull most of its content from the parent companyâ€™s website, which in days gone by was a typical solution to pulling content from other sites. The are some downsides to using this method, beginning with search engine indexing and ending with usability and accessibility.

Steve was looking for a face lift to make the site look much more elegant as his typical clientele rent and purchase very luxury homes at the shore.

He also wanted to add in more modern features while maintaining the link with the parent companyâ€™s data.

His final goal was to have the site be completely maintenance free. Not easy or simple to maintain, but to be absolutely, 100% maintenance-free.

Solution Provided

The first problem to solve was overcoming the frames issue. The CURL library in PHP was employed to remotely grab the pages from the parent company site while a combination of PHPâ€™s preg_replace() and str_replace() where used to clean up the error-riddled HTML code and then present it on in the final page. JQuery was also brought in to handle additional formatting with the still nested tables from the parent site.

The end result is a clean, pleasing page that retains all the parent data - completely maintenance-free. The MLS search and new construction section run from the IDX data search provided by idx by joe (yes a product of my own making).

The site captured Steve visual wishes as well as his technical wishes.
