The Homestead Hotel of Ocean City, New Jersey sits mere steps from the boardwalk and beach, offering a variety of rooms with view to people looking for summer vacation rentals.
The hotel already had a website in place, but over time updates had become time consuming and expensive since all the pages were static and needed their web designer's touch to make any type of update whatsoever.
The owners contacted me to talk about gaining control over the content of the site and performing a mild redesign to spruce things up a little. I suggested setting up a content management system to control the most frequently changing pages so they could do it themselves, and creating a new design for the site that used the latest web standards for layout rather than the old, bloated table-based layout the site was using before.
The end result? Simple, in-house updates, little to no ownership costs for the site (besides hosting) and cleaner, more valid semantic code to aid in search engine spidering.
