Did you know that google puts all the pages it spiders into 2 different indexes?
It has been revealed that google does in fact do this, and furthermore, pages in one rank more poorly than they would if they were in the other.
First, you have their real index. This is where we all want our important pages to be. You can see what pages on your website are currently held in the real index by doing this search on google:
site:www.yoursite.com
Second, you have the supplemental index, where google puts the pages it finds to be "less important". Only your deeply hidden pages of little consequence should be here. If you want to see which pages on your site are held there, run this search:
site:www.yoursite.com *** -sjpked
Hopefully none of your important pages are there. If they are, you should start thinking about how these important pages are being linked to. Can google tell that they are important? Do these pages have duplicate content to others? There are a number of reasons pages end up in the supplemental index, but how they are linked to and what they contain are usually the main reasons to be in one index or the other.
