The tools we use for web design and development
Like any good tradesman, a web designer/developer needs a good tool kit to help him get the job done right. What tools do we use here at the studio?
Right now we use
- All sites start with a pencil and paper so we keep a little of that around.
- Photoshop for the digital designs.
- Flash for illustration and/or animation.
- Coda for coding.
- Cyberduck for FTP.
- MySQL for database storage.
- PHP as our server-side language of choice.
- CodeIgniter as our development framework.
- jQuery as our javascript framework.
- CSS for page presentation.
- Strict HTML 4.01/HTML5 markup.
We used to use
- Dreamweaver for coding and FTP.
- ASP for server-side scripting.
- MS Access for database storage.
While we don't actively develop in the ASP world anymore, we can handle some ASP code if its part of a project.
Moving Forward
What tools and technologies will we be learning and using next? Who knows! Probably more mobile web stuff if anything looking forward.
