Domain Name Registrations and Hosting
When you have a website built, whether it's by Sites by Joe or another company, there are unavoidable costs of ownership outside the cost of design and construction. These expenses are domain names and website hosting.
A brief explanation of the services
Domain Names. If you don't already know that's the official term for something like "yourwebsite.com". You are only permitted to register the names for use, not own them, so there's a big business in just registering and renewing the names.
There are a millions companies that make this their focus (us too!) and we can handle researching available names, offering consultation on what a "good name" would be based on your needs, and performing the registration and renewals for you as well.
Web Hosting. This is basically paying rent to a large computer that stores website files and delivers requested pages and data. Just like the domain name service, there are plenty of options out there. If we're going to build you a website, we recommend using our hosting services as well.
Why? To be quite honest it's much easier to develop websites that are going to run in an environment that we're used to working with. In our case that ideal environment is an Apache server running the latest versions of PHP, cURL, and GD (that's a summary at least). A fast MySQL Server is good to have too.
We can work with your host too, but if you plan to use one of our custom-made CMSs, it'd be a good idea to use our hosting as things can be complex behind the scenes with this type of web software.
