PNGs and cross-browser color matching

Here are some very interesting documents that cover testing different hacks with 8-bit PNGs to try and achieve a good amount of color consistency when lined up with the same color values in HTML and CSS.

For a long time I’ve wanted to use PNGs, for this exact reason I finally had to give up and revert to GIFs and JPGs for everyday images.

I look forward to the day when PNGs behave perfectly and I don’t have to employ hacks to use them.
